Breaking down the Start

To continue from today's discussion about starts, I have found this helpful video that breaks down the mechanics of the start. It explains the differences in the conventional (grab) and track start dives and offers some quick tips to remember when starting.

RECAP:

Body Position

  1. Wrap toes around the edge of the block
  2. Keep you hips high and hold head in a neutral position
  3. Lead forward

The Dive

  1. Push off with your hands and feet
  2. Stay in a tight streamline position with pointed toes
  3. Aim hands at the flags
  4. Kick once you have entered the water

For another description check out Alex's video : http://youtu.be/OCsQyU4Zops - be aware that he does a slightly more advance dive. Notice how Alex throws his arms backwards to propel himself forward off the blocks for added momentum.

MMSC on a Friday Night

A big thanks to Nate and Dania for organizing the pub night, what an awesome way to kick off the season! The live band was great, most of the members were up and dancing at one point in time or another - although I am still unsure if that was actually a dance floor. Way to get it started guys! - and they had local beer on tap!

Great pick you two, I'm looking forward to the next social!

1st Offical Pub Night!

Attention all MMSC Members

It is the time you all have been waiting for.....

the 1st official Pub Night of the season *hurray* so I hope to see the MMSC members out it full force tomorrow (Oct 12th) at Failte Irish Pub @ 8pm (201 City Center Drive) - I know some of you were out last Friday night warming up for this event, with the UTM masters members. So please forgive the rest of us who might not be up to snuff. -  Just make sure you come on out & get to know your fellow swimmers and share in a few drinks and a good time.

I know some of us will be sore & tired from today's practice, but a pub night has PROVEN to make it all just go away. - So I'll see you at the Bar

What do goals and t-shirts have in common?  You can't reach your goal unless you bring a t-shirt to practices.  They will make you strong like bull in the water. So, please don't forget yours.  Bring it with you the next time you swim.
